Wind Turbine Blade Upcycling at JSB

Posted 1 week ago

Despite the fact that old wind turbine blades are structurally sound thousands are being decommisioned to make way for new and larger turbines.

This is a terrible waste, and not a sustainable solution longterm. Therefore, many wind turbine manufactures are looking for ways to both reuse, recycle, and upcycle old wind turbine blades to improve the overall sustainability of the industry.

Attempts have been made to improve the sustainablity, for example by recycling the composite material from the wind turbine blades to create furniture and housing elements, but more and better ideas are needed to improve the situation.

As a results, JSB has decided to launch a project with the objective to generate a new set of ideas to how decommisioned blades can be recycled or upcycled. A proof of concept must be developed for one of these ideas.

Therefore, we are looking for students with a creative mind who wants to help improve the sustainability of the wind industry.
